and the procrastination resumes...

utada hikaru surely must be the most talented female vocalist (aside from possible contender bjork-- and hell, lets cater to a greater audience and throw in mandy moore and shania twain). all asian pop artists remain swallowing dust by conforming to the cookie cutter image that so easily causes a quick rise to stardom. not to mention a quick fall back down. high pitched vocals so lethal theyd make LambChop jealous, combined with digitized high hats abused more than a 7 year old mashing buttons at an arcade prove typical of an asian pop artist. utadas just too swift on her toes to get caught up with hoes. including the likes of SHE, jolin tsai, namie amuro, random hot korean artist #1, random hot korean artist #2, and possibly even boa. riding on the wave of good looks is more than half the reason such artists quickly become so popular. but at the same time, people easily move on to something new simply because...something new is constantly being offered. a sheer lack of variety and creativity, not to mention wrinkles, causes most to become bored of this type of music. every music video looks more or less the same; i can go to oldteahouse, cover the bottom left corner of the screen, and ill have absolutely no clue as to how i can distinguish one artist from another. admittingly, utada started out this way. but with every new music video to come out following hikari, one can expect something other than a scantily clad asian woman stepping from side to side with a CG background created by some squaresoft reject. seriously, CG can only be good to a certain point. and then it looks like someones vomitting in the background while a pretty girl smiles and lip syncs as if shes dancing to her own song of bulemia. in her latest music video, clean cut camera angles and the creative use of lighting and paper cut outs only elevate the artist within utada. (personally, i believe bjork flat out kills anyone with her music videos). later this year the bjork of asia comes out with an album in english. finally. the girl was born in new york and attended columbia u, bout damn time i can listen to something i understand other than "i want your baby" and "can you keep a secret". hopefully whats so easily distinguished her in asia can be carried over to the US. america doesnt need a japanese christina aguillera.

quickie

slowly but surely, everyone becomes institutionalized by their environment. and despite the changes that become increasingly apparent (and occasionally irritating), we so easily rediscover the things that originally made them our friends.

just a little inspiration coming from a conversation over brunch.

im willing to make roadtrips to LA more often, so long as randomness can ensue on the way there.
