outside the box for a moment

clementines on the money:
"Maybe we find the most ease in more recent friendships because we befriended these people based on more recent standards and traits. Old friends are different because they are who they are now, more than they've ever been--but we befriend who they were then. Instead of confining each other to these pre-adapted personalities, in order to keep these friendships into the future, we almost have to be willing to "re-friend" each other again, and accept each other as "new friends" instead of old ones."
go out, have some fun, dont be afraid to say different things, make some rediscoveries.

someone mentioned an article in the life section of the newspaper describing how being a nerd is the trendiest thing these days. come on kids, dont conform to the image. take whats best and allow the image to conform to you. two things reminded me about how trends work in youth society. clems xanga talked about those horrid ruffle miniskirts. which reminded me of that scene in mean girls with the failed attempt to embarrass someone, resulting in becoming the latest trend. which reminds me of capri pants. which reminds me of flicking your polo collar up. a friend of mine discovered a potentially new trend, which he ripped from his friend in new york. neither of us have seen anyone else here try it. so im ripping it from him, so long as hes in fresno and im in davis. just a tiny little experiment im trying out during summer school. im willing to bear the embarrassment. it can catch the eye. and if this blows up here this fall, it just goes to prove that anyone can make ANYTHING beyond the norm become the norm.
